Why do most companies only do 90%?

In a world where the competition is fierce and you really need to stand out to be successful, most companies still only do 90 %. In my view it’s the last 10 % that makes the difference between a real success and not. An interesting thing is that the last 10 % is the easiest part and it’s mostly for free. But people still don’t do it? Let me explain and give you a few simple tips.

Follow up

Get the customer to feel special, appreciated and taken care of. The easiest way is to follow up after delivery of your product or service. Give the customer a call and ask if the customer is satisfied, could we do anything better, tell the customer that we appreciate them being our customer. I promise this will make you stand out and get a loyal customer who also will recommend you to others.

Make your product or service better

If we check out a few alternatives we always find good things with all alternatives, but not one alternative that has all the good things? Look at your product or service with new eyes, look at your competitors, ask your customers what they miss and figure out what will improve your product. Why not include all the good things in your product or service?

Upselling

Most products and services can offer some kind of upselling. Either something that goes well with your original product/service, such as a biscotti to your coffee, or a volume based offer such as, buy one extra with 50 % discount. So step one is to find out how you can upsell. Step two is of course to make sure that you and your staff always asks the customers if they would like to have this. If you don’t have anything to upsell, you will not upsell. If you don’t ask the customer only 10 % will buy what you are upselling instead of perhaps 50 % if you do ask.

Care for your employees

My last tip is to care for your employees and create a great, fun and possibility based environment for them to work and develop in. Do fun things together and not just work. Invite interesting speakers to discuss current topics that doesn’t necessarily has to do with what you do. Create brainstorming workshops where you encourage your employees to come up with what ever ideas they want regarding what ever areas of your business. Now and then give them small gifts of appreciation, like you hopefully do with your life partner. The cost for this is not even close to what you pay them, but will give you loyal, happy and valuable employees that also will deliver more compared to if you don’t take care of them.

Final words

All the above tips is applicable in most cases and areas regardless if you sell a product or a service, if you sell vacuum cleaners, cars or a lawyers advice. They are easy to do and doesn’t cost very much. Also remember that this is an on going thing and if you don’t do it someone else will.
